M-Cup - No respite for Sabah in their chase for points

JOHOR BARU: Sunday was meant to be a rest day for the Sabah team but they chose to train and work on their finishing, especially, ahead of their away Malaysia Cup Group D match against leaders Penang at the Batu Kawan Stadium tonight.

Sabah are still very much in the fight for a place in the quarter-finals after bouncing back from an opening 1-2 defeat by Perlis to down Kedah JKR 2-1 at home on Saturday.

Coach Ken Worden knows that his players will have their hands full to contain an in-form Penang tonight. The absence of influential midfielder Shahril Arsat, who is under suspension, and defender Dunian Sulog, who is ill, makes the task even tougher for Sabah.

"I am looking at a very, very tough match for us. We have been creating the chances but we have not been tucking the ball into our opponents’ net," said Worden from Kota Kinabalu before he left with the team for Penang.

Against JKR, Sabah had 31 shots on target but only managed to score two goals. Former international Suharmin Yusof scored both the goals.

"Physically and mentally we are ready. I wanted to give the players a break on Sunday. But I had to change my plans because of our long-haul flight to Penang," said Worden.
