M-Cup - Irfan gets info on Sabah through video

PENANG: Coach Irfan Bakti had to look at a video recording to prepare the Penang team for the Group D Malaysia Cup match against Sabah at the State Stadium in Batu Kawan tonight.

Sabah were in Premier II this season and Irfan did not get the chance to size them up live. But fortunately, the Malaysia Cup match between Sabah and Perlis at Stadium Utama last Tuesday was telecast live over television and Penang had it recorded.

"I have yet to see Sabah in action this season. Luckily, the match against Perlis was aired live and we recorded it. I have seen the video and we can apply a strategy to help us wrap up our first round fixtures with a 100% record," said Irfan.

Penang have full points after two matches. They defeated Kedah JKR 4-0 and downed Perlis 2-1 and a win over Sabah tonight will place them in the driver’s seat for a place in the quarter-finals.

But Irfan has reminded his players that they needed to be at their best against Sabah to get a positive result.

"They have experience on their side and it is provided by K. Sanbagamaran, Rizal Sukiman, Jelius Ating and Suharmin Yusof. Their coach (Ken Worden) is also no stranger to the Malaysian football. They are definitely a side to be reckoned with," said Irfan.

"But we have the chance to seal our first round campaign on a high note and I am confident we can deliver what is expected of us from our fans. A win will put us in good stead for the return match at the Penampang Stadium on Saturday."

Penang will be without influential midfielder R. Suresh Kumar, who is under a one-match ban for having re-ceived two yellow cards.

To replace Suresh, Irfan has three options in Suthesh Nair, Ooi Hoe Guan and national player Abdul Aziz Ismail.
