Cricket - Sarawak-Brunei final

Sarawak started their campaign towards winning their first Borneo Cup title yesterday with a stunning performance by defeating Sabah by 44 runs.

Sabah won the toss and elected to field. This decision seemed to be the correct decision, as Sarawak appeared to be in trouble at 25 for 3 in 11 overs. However, Vijay steadied the ship with a terrific captain's knock of 27 runs to take his team total to 129 runs all out in 49.2 overs.

Sabah's bowlers shared the wicket haul with Ismail (9-1-37-3), Roslan Mokti (10-4-18-2), Hatta (10-4-20-2) and Sabarrudin (0.4-0-3-1).

Sarawak's bowling attack proved too strong for Sabah's batting line-up.

Sabah lost wickets consistently throughout their innings to be all out for 85 off 43 overs.

Sabah's last pair of Affendy (14*) and Sofian (5) held 24 runs partnership to add respectability to their team total. Successful bowlers for Sarawak were Suresh (10-6-11-3), Rakesh (8-1-23-3), Vijay (10-3-13-2), Peter (10-3-15-1) and Gordon (5-1-19-1).

Sarawak will take on defending champions Brunei today at Jerudong Park Polo Ground hoping to lift the Borneo Cup for the first time.
