Abu Sayyaf's Kumander Radulan seriously injured

ZAMBOANGA, (ABS-CBN) - The Abu Sayyaf suffered its biggest set-back so far during the week-long military assault in Sulu after the military confirmed that one of its top leaders, Radulan Sajiron was seriously wounded after an encounter on Friday.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reported that Kumander Radulan was seriously wounded after an encounter at about 10:00 Friday night in Kamuntayan, Talipao, Sulu.

The military also reported that one soldier was killed during the heavy firefight, while a radio communication technician was reported missing.

Authorities are also tracking Abu Sayyaf men who reportedly rushed Radulan to a hospital near the town of Talipao.

However, a military source disclosed that they have already received reliable information on the whereabouts of the wounded leader but refused to divulge any other details as it may jeopardize their operations.

Kumander Radulan belongs to the Abu Sayyaf faction under Ghalib Andang alias Kumander Robot, who is holding the lone Sipadan hostage remaining, Rolando Ullah and members of religious group Jesus Miracle Crusade.

Also, the military confirmed that early Saturday morning, another encounter occurred between the Abu Sayyaf and government troops in Kamuntayan, Talipao. Three bandits were killed during the encounter as their bodies were recovered by the military.


No casualty however, was reported on the government side.

ASG casualties increase
Based on the actual bodies recovered, a total of 28 Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed during the week-long assault in Sulu.

But based on the military's intelligence report, the casualty count has reached 88.

The military reported that among the casualties were nine bandits killed during in encounter in Mount Gugod, Talipao last September 18.
