Three-way fight likely for Marudi

MIRI: Barisan Nasional looks likely to face a three-way fight for the Marudi hot seat after Parti Keadilan Nasional and an independent confirmed that they will be contesting the seat.

Former Baram MP Harrison Ngau Laing, a lawyer and active human rights activist, has confirmed that he will be contesting against Barisan incumbent assemblyman Sylvester Entri Muran under the Keadilan banner.

A former civil servant, Mering Imang, confirmed that he wanted to contest as an independent against Sylvester who is from the Sarawak National Party (SNAP).

Imang was the treasurer of SNAP Senadin branch. He resigned from his party to contest as an Independent in Marudi.

He claimed that many SNAP members had wanted him to enter the fray in Marudi because they do not want Muran to be their assemblyman anymore.

Laing said he wanted to fight for the rights of the natives who have been seriously affected by unfair land development policies.
